Character Information
Name: Flat Escardos
Canon: Fate/Strange Fake
Canon Point: End of Volume 4 edit: as of 3/23 he is at End of Vol 6!
Age: 19
History: Here

Additional: TL;DR He got into a fight with True Archer and won (by not being dead), got sucked into Tsubaki's dream world where he fought against False Assassin's master (and also won by Not Being Dead) and then got killed by one of the organizers of the Grail War while talking to Saber's Master.

But then the being inside him came to life and has now sworn to destroy humanity in order to fulfill Flat Escardos' dream of becoming human.

Personality:
Flat Escardos. A mage with genius level control of Mana, with the ability of performing all sorts of feats that other magi wouldn't be able to even dream of doing. He is considered to be one of the shining jewels of the Modern Magecraft department, and the most skilled descendant of the Escardos family. His professor, Lord El-Melloi II, has managed to describe him in a single word.

    An imbecile.

Other epithets for him include the genius idiot of the Clock Tower, and the Blessed Cursed Child. This strange duality of contradicting terms is no doubt because of his own idiosyncrasy, which has managed to baffle countless magi of all ages and ranks. Though his ability with Magecraft is at the level of a prodigy, reaching one of the highest ranks possible by the age of 15, he lacks the mental capacity to use these skills to their full potential...or for actually useful things in the first place. Rather than participating in the constant war for power that occurs between the walls of the Clock Tower, Flat Escardos is more likely to use his ability to peek into meetings for the sake of "seeing what happens". This makes him the source of scorn for most magi--including his own professor--, who see him as the personification of wasted potential. He's even been under Lord El-Melloi II's tutelage for ten years, simply because the latter still doesn't believe that he's ready for the outside world yet.

Nevertheless, his optimism and cheerful persona never seem to be deterred by these facts. If anything, he always seems to be wearing a smile on his face, no matter how perilous the situation may be. He can find an exciting twist or a silver lining to almost anything, including something as dangerous as the Holy Grail War, to the point that it’s ridiculous—who participates in a magical Battle Royale to make friends with all of the other Servants and Masters? His innocence is something that worries not just his Professor, but also his very own Servant, who points out that Flat would be the type of person to apologize after killing someone. Despite this bright-eyed idealism and innocence, he also seems to be rather intuitive at times, and is usually aware of whenever he’s facing an enemy that he can’t beat and choose flight over fight in those cases. He's keenly aware of his own shortcomings, especially his lack of ability in the physical department. He's not a fighter, and he's aware of this, so Flat will prefer to stay in the sidelines as support rather than be the one facing down an enemy.

However, as ridiculous as it may seem, Flat's will occasionally put his own life on the line for others, without regards for his own safety and without any ulterior motives. From an outsider's point of view, it might seem overly selfless, but it's nothing of the sort. In reality, Flat lacks any sort of "human" morals, and concepts such as "good" or "evil" mean absolutely nothing to him. What he does have, however, is a loyalty towards his Professor that is stronger than steel. Because of that, Flat follows not his own amoral tendencies, but his Professor's strict morals and beliefs instead.

These morals do not always align perfectly, though. Which causes some people to feel an uncanny valley effect when it comes to him--like an alien in a human skin. People who have felt this include not only strangers or past teachers that had him for less than a month in their classroom, but his very own parents. And while there's nothing kind about trying to kill your own son five times and then practically kicking him out of the family, it was because they realized that their child was not some overly kind boy, but a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. Even his own Servant has noticed this strangeness from their Master, stating that Flat is far too different from both Magi and normal humans.

And Flat is no fool, he's aware of this, too. His view of the world is so different, that no one is able to see the world the way that he sees it and, no matter how hard he tried, there was no way that he could make himself be normal. This situation made him live in fear of himself for years, bringing him down to the point that he had to use Magecraft to force his muscles into a smile to hide the loneliness and fear that he felt. And while those days are long gone now and he's found a place that has accepted him, weird and all, there's still times when he has a bout of loneliness. After all, he simply wants someone that can understand him and see the world as he sees it.

Additional: However, the being that is inside him is rather robotic, caring only about Flat Escardos' demise and completing the purpose that they were created for. They look down upon humanity, considering them to be nothing more than mere tools for their goal. They recognize that they are the completion of the long-forgotten 1,800 year pursuit of the Escardos family, and that they must bring the end to all humanity in order to become a real human themselves. Unlike Flat, who keeps himself from giving into his own amoral impulses due to Waver's guidance, it has no issue with slaughter, as long as it is for the purpose that they were made for. They won't feel one way or the other about being in Aefenglom, though being reduced to a human is not something that will sit very well with them.

Abilities & Skills:
Flat is a very powerful character, even for fate/ magi standards. His powers include:

  • Magic Circuits: Flat's Magic Circuits run like capillaries in his body, high in number and all of them are very high quality. Because of this, he has a high amount of Od (personal magical energy) and Mana (magical energy from the environment) which he can control expertly in order to perform an endless number of spells without running out of energy. In other words, he's similar to a nuclear battery that runs on Mana instead of nuclear fusion.

  • Magic Resistance: Due to his excellent Magic Circuits, this also allows Flat to have a high passive defense against curses. In other words, most low level spells will happily bounce off of him without him even noticing it. It takes a great deal of magical energy for him to actually feel a spell.

(That said, he is still a squishy human and actually very weak physically, so a good kick is enough to knock him out)

  • Presence Detection: Flat is capable of sensing presences from far away with very high accuracy. People, magical beings, and even Mana can be detected by him to a level that only non-human beings such as vampires and very perceptive Servants such as Enkidu can compare.

  • Chaos Magecraft: Based on the real Chaos Magic, Chaos Magecraft is a branch of Modern Magecraft that allows the user to take any spell and modify it to their preference, practically making it their own. In practice, this type of Magecraft is highly inefficient at best, and downright impossible at worst, but Flat is lucky enough to have an affinity with the element that makes up all of the current Mana in the world: Void. Between this and his excellent control of Mana, he is capable of taking any spell, old or new, and using it like his own, without regards to any other outside elements.

  • "Hacking": Thanks to his Chaos Magecraft and his Void element affinity, Flat is capable of tapping into Mana and everything that it is used in. In other words, he can access almost anything that uses magical energy, including enemy spells, Workshops (aka large magical areas that belong to a single person), and even other's Magic Circuits.

Inventory/Companions: He'll have a plastic knife!

Choice: Witch
Reason: Flat is already a magus in his world, with an incredible instinctual skill for using all sorts of Magecraft with very little trouble. However, learning to use new types of magic would be something very new to him, and definitely something that he would like to learn.
