Ah, yes, because you being able to, I don't know, telepathically throw people around with your mind or something of the like will suddenly make me forget you're you.
[ CRYSTAL YOUR VOL 6 SPOILERS. flat does not say anything about that because lol yikes. ]
I think it's just like... um...
[ ... ]
I'm just not like normal humans. Or mages. So between that and the other stuff...I'm not sure. But this sort of thing is common, sir. I have two friends that were experimented on and then most of the class has had at least one assassination attempt. Even the Professor has been targeted more than a couple times.
I'm a Magus. Part of a group known as the Mage's Association.
[ HEY SHOLMES REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE BRAINWASHED AND EXPERIMENTED ON CHILDREN-- ]
A lot of people aren't that different from the Magi that you saw here in the Magisterium...except I guess we don't work for the Church. Actually, in my world, the Holy Church and the Mages' Association really don't like each other.
But Magi, or Mages, either one is fine, will do a lot of stuff to get what they want. Pretty inefficient stuff, too. Experimenting on your kids is pretty normal, but then some Magi will do other stuff like kidnapping people and sacrificing them. There's even rumors that, if you're really skilled, you get your Magic Circuits and your brain ripped out of your body and preserved for research.
[It takes him a moment to say something, his voice quiet.]
And you live among such creatures in human skin? I dare say, Mr. Escardos. You speak of a nightmare. One that I refuse to let you suffer through again.
I think they're still human. Mister Tsurumaru told me that humans are capable of great kindness, but also of great cruelty. My Professor thinks the same way... the fact that Magi are willing to do such awful things makes them very human.
[ the real monsters...well, flat doesn't know. but maybe that's because no one is really a monster to him. ]
Even my Professor is cruel, too, in his own way. He's cruel to himself, mostly, going after a dream that he knows he'll never achieve. But because of that dream, he took all of us rejects in and treated us like normal human beings. And for that, we're all grateful for him.
[ he smiles at sholmes. ]
And that's why, to me, it isn't a nightmare at all.
...Your Professor sounds like a noble man, indeed. A man with plenty of kindness to share to others. I'm glad...you had him in your life, to keep you in a safe haven.
[And a low sigh.]
It doesn't change the fact that your society, reveling in its cruelty, doesn't exist outside that haven. What would happen, if anything happened to your Professor?
Hmm… if he were to die, then I think the Princess would take his place as Lord. I mean, technically she’s already a Lord, but she’s still too young? I don’t get it.
[ POLITICS! they suck. ]
But nothing will happen to the Professor. As a classroom, we all work very hard to protect him, even if he doesn’t want to be protected.
